Aprile 2004-n°154
The 2001 Barbicone, from the estate’s best Sangiovese vineyard, a deep, fresh ruby/garnet, features a warm, smoky, tobacco and chocolate nose, and subtle, fine-grained, and classy flavors with more than adequate force and depth. Deceptively elegant, this silky example of Sangiovese from the Tuscan coast will easily last a dozen years. Drink 2004-2016 - 91
The 2001 Sassobucato is the house’s Bordeaux blend, very dark in color, sweet, peppery, and earthy in aroma with very well integrated oak spices, solid and powerful on the palate. The presence of Petit Verdot gives some additional grip and authority to the finish, but the muscularity of the wine will probably require some additional bottle time. Drink: 2006-2018. 91
